Building Construction

While the Klein ISD community was heartbroken that Hurricane Harvey flooded Lemm Elementary, our Board of Trustees took the opportunity to update this thirty-seven-year-old building. We are combining FEMA and insurance funds with bond funds to make this a reality.

The interior classroom remodel provides transparency, daylighting, flexibility and collaboration spaces. Each month, we will bring the community an update on the Lemm progress, and we eagerly anticipate having Lemm students at the newly renovated Lemm Elementary on the first day of school in 2018.

Lemm Construction Update Feb. 7, 2018
The message below is from the Klein ISD administration regarding the Lemm Elementary School restoration.
______________________________________________________________________________
Klein ISD is actively working to bring Lemm Elementary back to the heart of the community. From the moment the flood waters receded, we began this urgent work with the restoration contractors, architects, engineers, insurance agents, FEMA, fire marshal, Harris County Flood Control personnel, permitting agents, and more to ensure that Lemm is able to reopen its doors and welcome families, students, and staff back home.

Currently, the approval of construction documents for the restoration of Lemm Elementary is on the Board of Trustees’ agenda for the February 12th board meeting at the Klein Multipurpose Center. On the same agenda item, administration is also requesting the Board to authorize the superintendent to negotiate and execute the construction contract once proposals are received on February 27th and evaluated. This is the final step in the required five-part State procurement process that must be approved by the Klein ISD Board.

Upon approval of the construction documents, the request for proposal will be available for general contractors to develop proposals for the restoration. The district recognizes that the targeted completion date of August 2018 is aggressive and may pose certain challenges that cause an extension of this target date. There may also be additional expense, for the contractors and the district, to meet the August 2018 target. To have a clear understanding of the construction costs, we have also requested pricing in the event the completion date is extended to November 2018.

The district has scheduled a town hall meeting at 6:30 pm on Thursday, February 15th at the Klein Multipurpose Center, to share the details of the restoration process, board action, Lemm educational programming spaces, and plans for getting students back to Lemm as soon as possible. Questions will be taken after the initial presentation. We encourage Lemm parents and interested community members to attend the meeting to learn first-hand about the work being done to bring an updated Lemm Elementary back to the heart of the community.
